The Wissahickon Valley Historical Society is having a meeting, Monday 2/8/10 at 7:30 PM at the Wissahickon Public Library on Skippack Pike.

The featured speaker will be Ajena Rogers, a Valley Forge National Park Ranger, who will give a living history presentation as Hannah Till an African American woman who spent 6 1/2 years working as George Washington's cook. A Revolutionary War veteran, she purchased her freedon in 1780. Should be quite interesting and will present a new perspective on the daily life of one of our Founding Fathers. Hope that you can make it.

Dear Members,

It is with great regret that I must inform you of the death of Art Hutchinson. Art passed away on January 5, 2010. He was a very dedicated member of the Historical Society of Whitpain. For those of you who regularly attended our meetings, you will remember Art as a gentle, quiet and nice man. These last few years took their toll on Art and he was not always able to attend all of our meetings. However he was always gracious and with a kind word and smile for everyone. His gentle presence will be missed.

We send our heartfelt condolences to his lovely wife Ethel and wish her peace.

Just to let you know that our last fund raiser of the year is coming up on Saturday. Besides our dues (which, if you have not renewed your membership would now be welcome -- Renewal form here) this is the only way we raise money. We need to do some serious work at the Franklinville School to try and stop water damage. We need to replace the soffit, repair and replace some window sills and other yet to be determined work which is going to cost money. We shall also need to do some work on the windows at Boxwood (scraping, glazing and painting).

If anyone happens to know an architect who would be willing to help us in our quest for National Historical Register Status, please let me know!

Come by and say hello. In any case, I want to wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year. Best wishes,

Herman
